Uniqueness vs Bestness
Presented by Matt Palmer

Passionate about our natural world, Matt Palmer won the AIPP Australian Professional Photographer of the Year in 2022 with his documentation of fires and environmental impact in Tasmania.

Later in his career his work has often focused on social issues, with a portrait project 'Faces of Islam' documenting Muslims in Brisbane about their way of life, garnering media attention around the world. Involved in photography for over 20 years, he has won awards in multiple genres including landscape, sports, documentary, travel, portrait and even wedding categories. He is also involved in judging photographic competitions including in Sweden and New Zealand, has presented at conferences including Head On Photo Festival on behalf of Sony, and has exhibited multiple times. His first solo show Images of Note featured live music photographs captured over 15 years, and Photosynthesis, part of the Ballarat International Foto Biennale , his first joint exhibition with fiancée Mieke Boynton featuring incredible trees from their archives. Today he runs Alpine Light Gallery in Bright, Victoria with Mieke, and is working on two book projects as well as dreaming of finishing his long-awaited project Ghosts (2015), documenting abandoned places in Iceland.
