Tuesday 9th June 2020 - Workshop Night - Photographer or Interpreter?
"There is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and it will be lost.”— Martha Graham
Sandra Dann
For me the camera is the tool I use to capture a scene, but it’s the creative process I connect with the most. I will often draw on that moment I stood there with the camera, what did I feel – cold, warmth, emotion, colour palette? Basically, reliving that moment in time. Colour, tone and mood are part of my style, creating an image is part of who I am as a photographer. This helps me to process an image. I don’t have set up a plan just an idea, it just seems to come naturally, though if I look back, I always loved colouring, drawing and working with colour palettes when decorating interior spaces.
Along the way of my photography journey I have been fortunate to win Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards in several Australian and International photography competitions.
When I first picked up a camera, I thought of myself as a photographer, now I consider myself an artist who uses the camera as a medium to interpret what I see and feel in my mind.
