Wednesday 19 June 2019 - Photographing Tennis

Photographing Tennis

Corner of Showground Road and Gilbert Road, Castle Hill

Sports photography is a very demanding form of photography where you capture the highs and lows of winning or losing. It is demanding in terms of control of the camera to ensure you have the right depth of field and speed. Challenge yourself to see if you can capture the decisive moment when the racquet hits the ball on a serve. Capture the pleasure on faces after winning shots, and the friendships of the doubles players. Capture the despair when someone has mucked up.

We have an outing to a Castle Hill Tennis club where we have gained permission to take photos of their Wednesday morning competition. We can only have 20 photographers present. The tennis club has asked that we not interfere with the tennis – so no moving and talking whilst serving and playing please. The players are active retirees – male and female.

The Tennis club has invited us to morning tea to meet their members.

You will likely need a longer lens, and tripod for this outing, however, you can still capture nice shots with a 50mm lens or whole of court with a wide angle lens. Come and be creative.

We will meet in the carpark at 9am for a briefing. Morning tea is at 10.30am. Location is off Gilbert Road Castle Hill. The club is situated at the corner of Showground Road and Gilbert Road, Castle Hill. For further information, contact Paul Sweatman.
