Tuesday 5th June 2018- Lecture Night

Presenter: Glenn Lockitch

Subject:

I have been involved in photography and the media for 24 years, primarily working as an independent social documentary, human rights and environmental photojournalist in Australia and overseas; independent newspaper editing; teaching photojournalism; production of photographic shows; and strategy and documentation with numerous non-government organisations – including in the late 1990 ’s.

I was one of the initial free speech activists working with Sydney Indymedia (one of the ground-breaking global Indymedia news websites now based in over 175 cities worldwide and which spearheaded Social Media open publishing). Choosing to remain independent I do not photograph anything that contradicts with my values and conscience.

I teach photojournalism at the Australian Centre for Photography and photographic courses at Sydney Photographic Workshops and am currently doing a Research Masters in Visual Arts (Photojournalism) at Griffith University.

My photography in Australia and internationally has covered the effects of mining on indigenous communities and the environment, the anti-corporate globalisation movement, social injustice, Australian Aboriginal issues, environmental destruction and animal rights. My photos have been widely published and exhibited.
